{"id":1256,"date":"2011-03-11T00:56:09","date_gmt":"2011-03-11T04:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/?p=1256"},"modified":"2011-03-11T11:52:19","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T15:52:19","slug":"a-week-in-the-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/2011\/03\/a-week-in-the-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"A Week In the Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I started this campaign, I knew better than to promise regular blog posts. \u00c2\u00a0As expected, it&#8217;s been stinkin&#8217; busy. \u00c2\u00a0That said, I know some people are interested in the nuts-and-bolts of the campaign (I got good feedback on <a href=\"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/2011\/01\/campaign-nuts-and-bolts\/\">this post<\/a>). \u00c2\u00a0So here are some notes on the last week:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, 3\/3 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My plan was to start the day by standing in front of Dunkin&#8217; Donuts and say hello, but I cancelled and caught up on sleep instead. \u00c2\u00a0That turned out to be a very good choice.<\/li>\n<li>At 10AM I met with the Arlington Advocate to answer questions for an upcoming article, then went to work.<\/li>\n<li>Before I left work, I made my last-minute edits to my entry in the League of Women Voters information booklet.<\/li>\n<li>I went to the budget hearing at Town Hall, then went home and answered emails.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Friday, 3\/4<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A light day. Email in the morning, then work.<\/li>\n<li>In the evening I wrote a draft of my 5-minute video recording that ACMI was offering. \u00c2\u00a0That proved a lot harder than I thought it would be, and I didn&#8217;t finish until 11PM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Saturday, 3\/5<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, the catch-up from my cancelled Thursday plan. \u00c2\u00a0I stood in front of Dunkin Donuts and introduced myself to the visiting patrons. \u00c2\u00a0This was pretty fun and interesting.<\/li>\n<li>10AM is the regular campaign meeting. \u00c2\u00a0We talked about an upcoming mailing and made lots of edits to my 5-minute video speech.<\/li>\n<li>2PM &#8211; taking photos for the upcoming mailer.<\/li>\n<li>2:30PM &#8211; debate preparation with 3 volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>Make a few calls to potential supporters.<\/li>\n<li>Started practicing 5-minute speech, realized the editing session had made a number of\u00c2\u00a0inadvertent\u00c2\u00a0errors, and re-wrote parts of it.<\/li>\n<li>Went out that evening with friends and saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.murderbydeath.com\/\">Murder by Death<\/a>! (It&#8217;s a rock band, not nearly as offensive as it sounds, and was a great time.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sunday, 3\/6<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Went to Panera at 10AM to meet someone interested in applying for work at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hubspot.com\/careers\">HubSpot<\/a> where I work.<\/li>\n<li>Practiced the 5-min speech.<\/li>\n<li>Worked on list of people for the mailer.<\/li>\n<li>Went to the League of Women Voters legislators&#8217; brunch and talked to a number of voters.<\/li>\n<li>Went home, and sent in the text of my 5-min speech to ACMI for loading into the teleprompter.<\/li>\n<li>Went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joecurro.info\/\">Joe Curro<\/a>&#8216;s campaign kickoff party. \u00c2\u00a0Met a number of voters. \u00c2\u00a0Collected a few donations to my campaign. \u00c2\u00a0Took more pictures for my mailer. \u00c2\u00a0Helped move furniture when it was done.<\/li>\n<li>Went to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lebaheigham.com\/\"> Leba Heigham<\/a>&#8216;s campaign kickoff event. \u00c2\u00a0Met a few voters.<\/li>\n<li>Went home. \u00c2\u00a0Did a number of campaign emails. \u00c2\u00a0Scheduled a couple campaign coffees and meetings. \u00c2\u00a0Wrote donation thank-you notes. Updated the campaign\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dandunnselectman\">Facebook page<\/a>. Practiced 5-min speech.<\/li>\n<li>Where did my weekend go? \u00c2\u00a0Went to bed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Monday, 3\/7<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No morning meetings. \u00c2\u00a0Practiced 5-min speech. \u00c2\u00a0Went to work.<\/li>\n<li>Officer meeting of my fraternity alumni group (<a href=\"http:\/\/adp.mit.edu\/\">Alpha Delta Phi at MIT<\/a>) \u00c2\u00a0in the evening.<\/li>\n<li>Went home, did some campaign emails. \u00c2\u00a0Answered a lot of emails about signs that were blown away in the storm the night before. \u00c2\u00a0Practiced 5-min speech.<\/li>\n<li>Sent Advocate a list of possible topics for the debate on Thursday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 3\/8<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Took a voter call in the morning.<\/li>\n<li>Worked from home. \u00c2\u00a0Practiced speech.<\/li>\n<li>Went to ACMI. \u00c2\u00a0After first run-through, the nice woman asked me how I thought it went. \u00c2\u00a0I answered, &#8220;wooden.&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0She seemed relieved that I realized how bad it was!
