{"id":333,"date":"2008-04-23T22:26:47","date_gmt":"2008-04-24T02:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/archives\/333"},"modified":"2008-04-23T22:26:47","modified_gmt":"2008-04-24T02:26:47","slug":"the-universal-hub-blog-not-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/2008\/04\/the-universal-hub-blog-not-city\/","title":{"rendered":"The Universal Hub (Blog, not City)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve mentioned before how much I enjoy reading the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalhub.com\">Universal Hub<\/a> every day.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve also mentioned how I respect and admire the work that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massinc.org\">MassINC<\/a> does on the Commonwealth magazine.\u00c2\u00a0 When Commonwealth <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massinc.org\/index.php?id=689&amp;pub_id=2255\">writes about the Universal Hub<\/a>, how could I not link to the excellent article?<\/p>\n<p>Commonwealth hits some key points about UH.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not just the big stories; it&#8217;s about the small things that aren&#8217;t necessarily newsworthy, but are the events that define our daily lives.\u00c2\u00a0 None of us experiences everything that the Boston area has to offer.\u00c2\u00a0 UH lets us see into other people&#8217;s lives, and gives us a new perspective on our own lives.<\/p>\n<p>Look what I read on UH today.\u00c2\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalhub.com\/node\/14156\">story<\/a> that at least starts with <a href=\"http:\/\/mennonnosapiens.com\/2008\/04\/22\/a-blizzard-of-blossoms-in-back-bay.aspx\">pictures of flowers<\/a>, but ends up somewhere else entirely (Read it to the end. You have to.)\u00c2\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalhub.com\/node\/14154\">story<\/a> for my friend Mike about his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/blogs\/news\/city_desk_wired\/?p=1517\">Red Line commute<\/a> and fellow Quincy residents &#8211; be sure to notice the drive-by-but-totally-accurate critique of the Herald reportage.\u00c2\u00a0 And last but not least, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalhub.com\/node\/14144\">a story<\/a> about a guy being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wickedlocal.com\/medford\/news\/x480407864\">terrorized by a green dot<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Do you begin to see what UH does for us?\u00c2\u00a0 How many people have seen a random milk crate in the Fens and not given it a second thought?\u00c2\u00a0 How many people were delayed on the Red Line and wondered why?\u00c2\u00a0 How many thousands have driven past the sign in the lawn and wondered what the heck was going on?\u00c2\u00a0 The UH lets us see more, dive deeper, understand more about where we live.<\/p>\n<p>On a more personal level, I think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalhub.com\/node\/8053\">UH has linked to me<\/a> once.\u00c2\u00a0 I saw the traffic spike and wondered what the heck happened.\u00c2\u00a0 And then there was the time I saw a link to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalhub.com\/node\/11076\">colleague&#8217;s wife&#8217;s blog<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 When I mentioned it to him, Ned said &#8220;Oh, yeah, Adam links to her sometimes.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 I realized that I needed to be a better blogger, and work on my connections more.\u00c2\u00a0 And then there was the time that UH linked to the blog of a woman in Somerville.\u00c2\u00a0 Imagine my surprise and delight when I found that <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.margaretsanford.com\/\">Margaret was blogging<\/a>, and I didn&#8217;t even know it.\u00c2\u00a0 My point: UH isn&#8217;t about reading just a few websites.\u00c2\u00a0 UH manages to find the crannies of the community, and shares them for us all to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have UH in your RSS feed (or bookmarks, or whatever), I highly recommend you start.\u00c2\u00a0 And Adam, they say that flattery gets you everywhere; feel free to link here more often \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve mentioned before how much I enjoy reading the Universal Hub every day.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve also mentioned how I respect and admire the work that MassINC does on the Commonwealth magazine.\u00c2\u00a0 When Commonwealth writes about the Universal Hub, how could I not link to the excellent article?
