{"id":427,"date":"2008-10-02T01:00:12","date_gmt":"2008-10-02T05:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/?p=427"},"modified":"2008-10-02T01:00:12","modified_gmt":"2008-10-02T05:00:12","slug":"saving-the-economy-one-wooden-arrow-at-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dandunn.org\/blog\/2008\/10\/saving-the-economy-one-wooden-arrow-at-a-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Saving The Economy, One Wooden Arrow At A Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate tonight voted to approve the bailout bill.\u00c2\u00a0 Not only did they approve $700 billion (BILLION) in spending, but they approved $150 billion in tax breaks.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently our financial crisis is <em><strong>so severe<\/strong><\/em> that we need to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601103&amp;sid=aKd0vyGN8L2k&amp;refer=us\">rescind a $.39 tax on wooden arrows<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Wooden arrows?\u00c2\u00a0 Are you kidding me?<\/p>\n<p>Are our legislators so totally intellectually and morally bankrupt that an unacceptable spending bill of unprecedented proportions can be transformed into something acceptable by throwing in a little gift for everyone?\u00c2\u00a0 Can they really justify squandering such a huge sum because, at long last, the makers of NASCAR tracks have a smaller tax burden?<\/p>\n<p>I feel like I can dangle a piece of tinfoil in front of Congress, hand them all a lollipop, and tell them to hire me as a Red Sox Playoff Game Historical Evaluator.\u00c2\u00a0 At $1,000,000 a game, I&#8217;d be <strong>dirt cheap<\/strong> in comparison.<\/p>\n<p>One final item before I take my enraged self to bed: I&#8217;d like you all to refresh yourselves on the US Constitution, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usconstitution.net\/xconst_A1Sec7.html\">Article I, Section VII<\/a>, which reads: &#8220;All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives . . .&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 And then ask yourself: why is the Senate voting on a revenue bill that was defeated in the House?<\/p>\n<p>We need to clean house.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate tonight voted to approve the bailout bill.\u00c2\u00a0 Not only did they approve $700 billion (BILLION) in spending, but they approved $150 billion in tax breaks.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently our financial crisis is so severe that we need to rescind a $.39 tax on wooden arrows.\u00c2\u00a0 Wooden arrows?\u00c2\u00a0 Are you kidding me?
